Sweet potatoes must be familiar to everyone. Roasted sweet potatoes have always been a childhood

Sweet potatoes must be familiar to everyone. Roasted sweet potatoes have always been a childhood delicacy for rural children. As a widely cultivated crop in China, sweet potato has many advantages, such as easy to feed, high yield, good taste, great help for human health, and a wide range of uses.
In terms of consumption, it goes without saying that roasted sweet potatoes, boiled sweet potatoes, fried sweet potato vines, and so on are common practices, and are also good feed for chickens, ducks, pigs, and cattle. But how to grow high-yield sweet potatoes? In fact, as long as you master planting management skills, you can also achieve high yields.
1. Meeting necessary environmental requirements
Firstly, there is temperature. Sweet potatoes are a plant that is afraid of the cold. If the temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius, sweet potatoes will be frostbitten, not only causing a significant reduction in production, but also potentially freezing to death. The optimal growth range is between 20 degrees and 32 degrees, so sweet potatoes are usually sown in spring.
Secondly, there is moisture, as sufficient moisture can help sweet potatoes grow better. Although sweet potatoes have a certain degree of drought resistance and can survive in areas with less precipitation, they essentially prefer humid environments. When planting sweet potatoes, it is best to have 60% to 80% moisture in the soil.
Then there is light. Sweet potatoes are plants that enjoy light, and it is best to maintain at least nine hours of light per day. If the light is severely insufficient, the sweet potato vine leaves will turn yellow and fall off. Furthermore, soil is not a high requirement for sweet potatoes, and almost all soil conditions allow them to grow. But for high-yield sweet potatoes, it is best to choose soil with high permeability. Finally, there are nutrients. Sweet potatoes have a strong ability to absorb fertilizers, and it is best to provide them with some fertilizers. Sweet potatoes have the highest demand for potassium, followed by nitrogen.
2. Management process during planting period
The first step is to select suitable seedlings for planting and breeding. As a mature crop, sweet potatoes have developed several different varieties that can be planted according to preferences. However, it is important to choose healthy and intact potato seeds. When raising seedlings, cultivate them according to the suitable conditions for sweet potatoes, with a spacing of 15 centimeters between potato seeds. Fermented and mature farm manure can be sprinkled. When the seedlings grow to about 10 centimeters, a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer can be applied.
In addition, before planting sweet potatoes, it is necessary to plow the land first to use sunlight to kill bacteria and pests in the land, while ensuring the hydrophobicity and breathability of the land. After the cultivation of seedlings is completed, the transplanted land should also be plowed and organic fertilizer should be sprinkled to improve fertility. When transplanting, remove the leaves below the seedlings, with an interval of 25 centimeters, and insert them diagonally into the pit. Then, sprinkle plant ash first, cover with soil, and water to moisturize.
Finally, the care during the growth period of sweet potatoes mainly includes watering, fertilization, pest control, and weeding. Sweet potatoes do not have high water requirements in the early stages of growth, otherwise attention should be paid to drainage. Only when encountering dry weather, artificial water replenishment is needed. Due to the fact that organic fertilizer and plant ash have already been supplemented during transplantation, the demand for fertilizer in the early stage is not high. It is only when the sweet potatoes underground grow that additional watering and fertilization are needed. During this period, there is a high demand for water and fertilizer, and basically as long as the land dries, watering is needed.
The weeding of sweet potatoes is not about removing weeds, but only removing overgrown sweet potato vines. The growth of sweet potato vines is very fast. If not cleaned regularly, excessive growth of sweet potato vines will consume nutrients from underground roots and affect yield. As for pests and diseases, sweet potatoes have good resistance to them, but in the case of large-scale cultivation, it is better to apply some pesticides.
